Colin turned 4 on Sunday and we had a party here to celebrate. He wanted a race car theme. We invited 7 of his friends, but only 4 could come (all boys). We had a few checkered flags, cones and an obstacle course. I had made all the kids fake licenses and they each got to race the course. Then we ordered pizza, ate cake and opened presents – pretty typical birthday party but Colin had a great time.

Opening presents:

Playing with the new bulldozer and digger (Holden benefited as well

Colin and Holden also had their check ups on Tuesday. Both healthy, Colin weighed 32 lbs (10th percentile) and is 39 inches (25th). Holden is 25 lbs (40th) and 32 inches (40th). Both of them had to get shots and Colin was not happy about it – but at least he doesn’t have to get anymore until he is 11. His legs were really sore afterward, in fact the next morning he didn’t even want to walk. He got better with some tylenol and was running around the park a couple hours later.
Colin started school yesterday. He now goes in the afternoons from 12:30 to 3:30. I work at the school on Wed so I worked yesterday. It was great to see the kids again and they have really changed. They listen now, they share so much better and it was a pleasure to be there. In fact, I wasn’t needed nearly as much as last year. Colin got right back in the grove and had a great time.
Tidbits:
The other day when I said I have to cut Holden’s hair Colin said “Well don’t cut mine, I feel beautiful”
Colin calls “instructions” – “constructions” as in “Mom, I put the mac n cheese that way so you could read the constructions”
Colin also calls fruit flies (which are all over the house) “gook flies”
Some of Holden’s words: yayas = legs, gock = socks, gick = garbage, ba = truck, bus or airplane (followed by his hand flying through the air)
I have lots to write about, since we haven’t blogged in awhile, but I have to start with the Daily Show.
Last week we were watching the Democratic Convention and then right afterwards watched part of the Daily Show (at 8 PM). Colin was still up and he knows who Jon Stewart is so he wanted to watch it. They were in Denver and all the correspondents were reporting as though they were in beer commercials (check out: Daily Show Aug 26th). Then right after Jon Stewart was making fun of James Carville – Colin just thought Jon Stewart was hilarious.
The next day he begged to see it again so I let him watch it online – here is the video. Since then he will just pull out a “What’sssssss uuuuuupppppp” or “and Twins (said in the Coors light way)” or a “I’m tapping the Rockies” and his timing is perfect. Holden has also jumped on the bandwagon. Yesterday I asked him to tell me a joke and he goes “Waaa-ahhhhhhhh” – meaning “What’ssssss uuuuppppp” in Holden speak.
We have been watching and talking about all things election recently. I am so into it now I can’t stop. During the convention (we watched both) Colin stayed up to watch some of it with us. Here were his observations: During Hillary’s speech – “Hillary Clinton has a lot to say.” and “Obama has been talking for a long time, he must be president now.” He also told us a joke in the car the other day (Grandma should appreciate this because she heard his “jokes” this summer) – he said “Hey I have a joke about the presidents. McCain is dirty and Obama is clean.” We told him that wasn’t really a joke
I will have to post a blog about our summer vacation, which was a blast. Colin also had his first sleepover last night. His friend Matthew spent the night after they spent the whole day together. They had a great time.
We are off to the Mariners-Yankees game tomorrow and the weather is supposed to be great – should be fun.
