We’ve really been bad about writing this month, must be the run up to the new baby (at least that’s the excuse I’m using for today). Crunch time is approaching though, so much so that Jess is actually thinking of packing some stuff for the hospital.

More Colin and Daddy at Sesame Street Live

In any case, as Colin’s world is about to be shaken upside down, we wanted to do something nice for him before the new baby arrives, so we took him down to Detroit’s Fox Theatre to see Sesame Street Live, Super Grover Ready For Action (no, really, that’s the name of it). As with most of these events, he goes through three distinct phases:

  • Initial excitement when we get there - this was amplified for this show, because the lobby was full of stands selling toys, cotton candy, popcorn (his eventual choice) and the like.
  • Colin and Daddy at Sesame Street LivePre-show meltdown - invariably he says he wants to leave or simply starts bawling right before things are set to begin; in this case, Big Bird’s voice came up on the PA saying they were going to start in 3 minutes, Jess asked Colin if he was excited, and in true terrible-2 fashion he blew up and started crying and said he wanted to leave.
  • Settle in and enjoy - he sits with me or Jess quietly for a couple of minutes, and as soon as the show starts he’s entranced. This show was no exception.

There were a number of highlights, I know Jess documented some stuff she wanted to post about, so I’ll let her do that - but one of the funnier ones was when Grover was doing a solo (kind of a sad song), Colin didn’t want anything to do with it. Love Grover he may, but he wanted the full cast back out there doing their thing…the solo couldn’t end quickly enough.

Here’s a couple of recent pictures - he likes fruit smoothies, and if you didn’t know, it’s BITTERLY cold in Michigan (hence the scarf and hat). Go figure.

And since we haven’t had one of these in some time, here’s 8 months pregnant Jess:
