It seems as though in the span of 24-48 hours all of a sudden Colin could do all this new stuff. He can really sit for a long time, a couple of minutes if he feels like it. He is finally doing the mini-pushup thing and rolled over from front to back (albeit only once). While laying on the ground with his hands up off the ground he can lift his whole butt, stomach and legs off the ground - try it yourself - it is almost impossible for me to do. He also started scooting forward a bit to try to get to things. When we prop him up he puts full weight on his legs and stands, almost to the point where I feel like he could stand for a second by himself.
He really likes his exersaucer thing. He looks like a busy little guy in it - like he has a list of things he wants to do and he is busy at work playing with each toy. When I watch him you can really see him thinking about how one object hits another or if it can fit through a space or what happens when he drops it (which is all the time).
He also loves Sevi - I wouldn’t be surprised if “dog” was his first word. He smiles at her and tries to grab her ears. She has been great so far, but we will see once he starts crawling around and getting into her space.
We have tried to start solid foods to a mixed review. Some days he will eat them, some days no way. He always makes a face though, as if he is not really sure what the stuff in his mouth is and what he is supposed to do with it. We will keep trying though, I can’t feed him forever
Colin is 6 months old today - I can’t believe it has already been a half a year.
Tooth: I hadn’t checked his mouth in a couple days and all of a sudden a tooth has come through on the bottom - pretty exciting. I guess teething hasn’t been that much of a problem for him because he didn’t seem overly fussy recently, thankfully. I can’t believe how proud I was that he grew a tooth - he didn’t even really do anything, everyone has them, I knew he was going to get one and still I think he is amazing. Crazy.
Sitting: He is also close to sitting. He can sit for about 10 seconds before tumbling one way or another. I usually sit him on the bed and when he falls to one side, he tends to think it is pretty fun.
Weekly Talents: He has also been keeping up with his newly discovered talents. He finds one, does it constantly for a few days and then moves on. Last week it was kind of a B sound, but it was really funny because he would try to get the B out, not letting air out of his mouth - then his face would turn all red and finally a big “Buh” and spit would fly out. Now for the last few days he has been fake coughing and making deep grunting sounds.
I just realized it has been over a week since the last post - here is a little update for the past week:
Last weekend we all (Chuck, myself, Colin and Sevi) took our first road trip in the new CR-V. We went up north to visit my parents. We all agreed it went very well. Sevi likes her new space in the way back, Colin can look out lots of windows (although he pretty much slept the whole way) and Chuck and I have lots of room in the front. Changing of the diaper wasn’t quite as easy since it was about 20 degrees out and we didn’t want to have the doors open. I was crouched on the floor of the passengers side and Colin was on the seat - thankfully there was no pee fountain. While up north, Chuck and I got to go cross-country skiing on the frozen lake - it was a beautiful day and it was nice to get out of the house and get some exercise.
Colin’s sleeping has been getting better and better. The other night he slept from 8:30 PM until 5:30 AM and probably would have slept longer if I hadn’t woken him up to see if he was OK. I know, I know…worried mom…I want him to sleep through the night and when he does I wake him up. I won’t do it again - it is just the the first time they do it you aren’t ready for it
His new thing of the week is banging things. He trys to hit everything: my computer, the phone, my cereal bowl, etc. Right now he is sitting in his exersaucer (sorry for sounding like a modern mom with all the ridiculous gadgets - but he likes it) and he has this plastic key. He is banging the key over and over, but the funniest part is that he knows it is going to be loud so he keeps closing his eyes right before he bangs it:

He is doing really well trying to sit up. He can sit for a couple seconds before he starts to lean and then slowly falls over.

That is about it for the Colin files for now.
